How creepy is that?
Jan. 9th, 2015 12:56 pmNaming my characters is something I thoroughly enjoy. Even - or especially - when they're foreign names and come with research that turns into an impromptu journey into a history and culture unknown to me.
But right now, I'm somewhat freaked out.
I was looking for a simple reference name, ie. not a real character playing a role in the story, more along the lines of:
"Do you know xyz?"
"Oh, you mean the pianist who shot himself?"
Nothing complicated, apart from the fact that I needed something vaguely Korean. So I found this great website which helps you to construct Korean names and, since it's not a major character, I put a name together based on the way it sounded. To me, that is. Not necessarily any Korean.
Only to find that what I'd created from random syllables and sound was the name of a singer who had tragically taken his own life only a few years ago.
How in creation...?
