Part 6: Classified

Jaejoong pulled the shirt over his head and tucked it in with a little dejected sigh before he crossed the threshold to the living room. Despite everything that happened after, catching Yunho unawares, there in the kitchen, had been a lot of fun. He really wanted to see that wide-eyed, astonished look on Yunho's face again. He wanted to see that lush mouth drop open in shock and his beautiful eyes turn dark with want. He wanted to watch Yunho curl in on himself as if someone had punched him in the gut when he caught sight of Jae wearing something outrageous his stylists had dreamed up. But even exhausted and only partially awake as he was, he could tell that now would be a bad time for a tease.

Yunho had taken over one corner of the large living room sofa. He had a tablet in his lap, another one propped open on the coffee table, and a stack of yellow Post-its decorating the arm of the couch. His hair looked as if a swarm of birds had decided to nest in it overnight and Jaejoong smiled softly at the sight. Definitely a bad time for a tease.

"How do you know Junsu?" Yunho demanded as soon as Jaejoong stepped into the brightness of the living room, not even bothering with a hello.

"I'm dating his best friend," Junsu replied from where he sprawled on his stomach on the other side of the leather sofa, face buried in his laptop. How he could type in that position was anyone's guess, but type he did. At an impressively rapid rate.

"I wasn't asking you," Yunho snarled from his end of the couch, and Jaejoong suddenly felt wide awake and light as air.

"He's dating my best friend," he said and made his way to the kitchen. "You could have told me you're a hacker. I could have asked you to fix my laptop."

"Three guesses why I didn't?"

"Spoilsport." Jaejoong opened the fridge and started to pull containers from the heavily laden shelves. Wound up as he'd been after the fan meet and confessing the complete history of the creepy texts to Yunho, he'd gone on an epic cooking spree the previous night. Now they had enough food to feed an army.

"Anyone else hungry?" he asked, not surprised to see Changmin raise his hand without a second's hesitation. When it came to food, that guy was an army. And from what Jaejoong had seen over the last four months, he didn't even need to watch what he ate when to keep his weight. Some things were just not fair.

It was lucky that Jaejoong was invariably buzzed when he went mad in the kitchen. The excess of adrenaline effectively stopped him from wanting any food and during the previous day, Jaejoong had managed to stick to water and a few nibbles of raw vegetables while he cooked. Now, though, he was starving. And he had dance rehearsals later.

"Anyone else? Yunho? Hacker-ssi?"

"For heaven's sake, Junsu," Yunho suddenly exploded, standing over the industrious blond with an expression like a thunderstorm. "What part of it's classified is so hard to understand?"

"Junsu's classified? Cool," Jaejoong chirped brightly from the doorway, and took great delight in watching the flush spread across Yunho's cheeks.

"Don't blame me." Junsu wasn't in the least bit rattled by Yunho's outburst. He didn't even bother to look up. "It was totally under wraps until the two of you had to spread the happy news to all and sundry."

"What?" Yunho threw an incredulous look at Junsu, then at Changmin, before he glared at Jaejoong, who was setting out dishes and utensils on the large dining table.

"What?" Jae shrugged, looking up. "I've only met him twice before. Once at a party and once at Yoochun's place. I had no idea he was a hacker. I don't even know where he works." He set the last bowl down and straightened. "So… what is it you do that's so secret?"

"If I tell you that, Yunho will have to kill you," Junsu pronounced, ominous.

"Ooh, I had no idea my bodyguard was a super secret assassin!" He pulled his phone out and—before anyone could react—snapped a picture of Yunho and Junsu facing off by the sofa. "Blackmail material," he cackled and then a thought occurred to him. "You could get me into manager-ssi's Twitter account, you know? For keeping it quiet and all? When he turns my schedule crazy, I can post random pictures to distract him. And cats. I could totally post cats."

"Now I understand why you're best friends with Yoochun," Junsu grumbled. "Exact same brand of crazy."

"Hey! I thought you two were dating. Aren't you supposed to like the guy you date?"

"What makes you think I don't like him?"

"The fact that you're insulting him might be a clue."

"I wasn't—" Junsu looked stricken.

"And he isn't even here to defend himself," Changmin added sadly from the dining table, where he was busy filling a bowl with the fruits of Jaejoong's late night labours.

"Yeah," Jaejoong nodded. "Stabbing him in the back and all…"

"I wasn't—" Junsu began again, but this time Yunho's voice interrupted him.

"Stop stirring the pot, you two. And Junsu, come eat."

Junsu looked as if he might want to argue, but he finally ditched his computer in favour of food, and even Yunho left off glowering for long enough to join them at the table. Dinner was companionably silent since all of them were hungry, until Jae's manager showed up and nagged him about the rehearsal schedule. Jaejoong was too tired to argue, or defend himself against accusations of sloth and laziness. In the end he smiled apologetically at Changmin and climbed to his feet.

"Let's go."

Before he could make it out of the door, Junsu raised his head and pointed a finger at his laptop screen. "You're on."

***

"Here, have another one." Changmin held out an opened water bottle and Jaejoong took it gratefully. He lifted it to his lips, not caring that a good portion of the content spilled down his chin and chest as he drank. Dance rehearsals in this heat and humidity were strength-sapping, but at least there wasn't any stage lighting to add to the inferno.

He wanted to lie down, right there on the wooden boards, and not move for a year. Instead he stood as straight as he could manage and squinted through his wet bangs at Changmin.

"We're done."

Changmin just nodded. "Come on, then, let's get you into a shower and then back home for some sleep."

A cool shower sounded heavenly, but there was a distinct crimp in that plan. "I didn't bring a change of clothes." His manager had been in such a hurry to get him to the rehearsal, he'd barely had time to think.

"Grab a stage costume?"

"The entourage went ahead of us, remember? All my gear's already in Bangkok."

"Rock stars," Changmin grumbled, very clearly not a compliment. Then he wrapped a hand around Jaejoong's bicep and helped him to his dressing room. "Get in the shower. I'll find you some clothes."

Jae was gone on the words. The shower was as heavenly as he'd dreamed of all afternoon and he took his time soaking under the cool fall. When he came out, wrapped in a large towel and rubbing his hair dry with a smaller one, Changmin had indeed found some clothes for him: black sweats, which were a little bit too long when Jaejoong pulled them on, and a black t-shirt with MinHo Security across the front and the MinHo logo on the back.

"Actually, why don't we do this all the time?" he wondered as he tied the sweats. "I could walk through a crowd of fan girls and nobody would recognise me!"

"In your dreams," Changmin said softly from the door. "It's not your clothes that make you a star, Jae."

That was something that Jaejoong had thought about a lot in the last three years. He loved writing music. He loved singing and performing. He loved…his life. But he still didn't feel as if he was anything special, any different from the people around him. "I'd love to prove you wrong, but it's unlikely you'll even let me try."

"Certainly not," Changmin chuffed, his usually so bright smile a little sad around the edges.

"I know," Jae reached for his shoes. "I'm incredibly lucky that I get to do something I love. So I should just shut up and stop whining, right? Ow!" He hadn't even seen Changmin move, but he slap on the back of his head wasn't half painful. "What was that for?"

"You—making me sound like your manager," Changmin snapped and held the door open.

***

"Are we done for the night?" Jae asked hopefully when they were safely in the limo and on the way back to the hotel .

"Only tomorrow's airport schedule to go through," Changmin said, checking Jaejoong's seatbelt and then his own kit bag for the third time since they'd gotten underway. The back of his neck was tight and—in Changmin's experience—that was never a good sign. "We're staying with you overnight, so we should all get a good night's sleep and a smooth start."

"Do you think Yunho caught some shuteye while we were gone?"

"I doubt it. He's bound to keep Junsu busy. That stalker of yours worries him."

"Why? It's not the first time someone got hold of my phone number."

Changmin folded his arms across his chest and leaned into his corner, keeping one eye on Jaejoong and one on the traffic surrounding their car. The singer looked totally beat, the purple circles under his eyes almost taking over his face. But he was awake and intent on Changmin's answer, so Changmin mentally rephrased his snarky comment into something that sounded more like a real explanation. "Stalkers tend to be obsessed with their targets," he said quietly. "They need the proximity, the contact. But because of that need, they can be easiert to spot. Especially on a long tour."

"And because I didn't tell you when it started to happen, you can't."

"Pretty much, yeah."

They rode in silence the rest of the way, Jaejoong with his head down and his eyes half closed. Junsu was gone when they reached the apartment, but Yunho was still ensconced in his corner of the sofa and—during the few hours they'd been gone—the Post-it notes had been breeding. There was a veritable sea of yellow dabbed along the arm of the couch.

"Anything useful?"Changmin wanted to know.

"Junsu's mapping locations. So far, it looks like classic stalker patterns. Never far away from the target."

"I'm sorry, alright," Jae interrupted, voice almost savage. "I wasn't keeping quiet to make your job harder. I just…" He blushed, kept his eyes down. "I didn't want to look pathetic and helpless all the time."

"Nobody blames you for anything," Yunho began, and Changmin could have told him that the oh-so-reasonable tone he used would only add fuel to the firestorm. Whether Yunho wanted to hear it or not, he was in for it now.

"Shut up!" Jaejoong snapped, very much the way Changmin had envisaged it. "I don't need to be coddled. I made a mistake, I realise that, but I wanted you to look at me as if I was actually here, you know? Maybe ask me out?"

"That would be highly unprofessional," came out of Yunho's mouth and Changmin wanted to hit his friend.

"Unprofessional?" Jaejoong's voice was whisper-soft, like a caress that just floated on the air.

"Yes, very," Yunho confirmed, totally oblivious. "It would send entirely the wrong signal if I dated a client."

The room was quiet for a moment, then Jaejoong squared his shoulders and tilted his chin. Changmin didn't really swing that way, but even he found the move ridiculously sexy.

"Fine," Jaejoong said, voice now like a mix of smoke and velvet. "I'll ask you again when the tour is over."

He turned on his heels and disappeared into his bedroom. And Shim Changmin leaned against the wall and fought against laughter. The airport schedules would have to wait.

So does Jae work for a company like SM or does he have an agency who works for him? I've been assuming the latter so he has a little more control over his life, but Changmin's comment about his manager made me wonder.

Thanks for the update!

I think he has an agency that looks after him. They give him a certain level of creative freedom, and make sure his work is marketed and promoted in the most efficient way. They've appointed a manager to keep Jae on schedule for all the promo activities.

See? I said I wouldn't let you wait long for some YunJae. Though Yun is doing my head in with his brand of oblivious. But Min makes up for it... ;-)

You have that much written far ahead? Good for you. :D
And good for us, I hope.
Humm... angst, eh? Yes, the sub-plot does promise to be serious.

Not angst so much - though Yunho really needs a clip around the ear! - but action gone wrong. I like writing stories not set in England for a change. Means I can indulge in a bit more blood and gore. :-)

This is one arc from my current novel - turned into a YunJae + Min, just for a bit of fun. I'll post them here for as long as anyone's interested in reading.

Don't forget to check statistics. LJ has a huge high rate of lurkers who do not comment. I even do that sometimes.
But I think I can totally assure you will have plenty of people wanting to read your stories. :)

Junsu

OMAIGAWED JUNSU! Even in fiction when he's all set and cool, the others still manage to troll him. Hahaha...that was epic. I couldn't stop laughing. But do I sense a bit of vengeful righteousness there? Those three better watch out!

"It's not your clothes that make you a star, Jae."

AMEN!

Ugh. I'm so freakin' torn with all these characters. I don't know which is my favorite yet. I just...I want to know more.
From what I can see so far...
Junsu is just so curious; probably as obsessive as Yunho and definitely balsy,
Changmin is fantastically snarky yet mature and it's sweet how he looks out for Yunho; he's mindful of how Jae perceives Yunho and vice versa,
Yunho is obsessively stubborn and incredibly courageous when it comes to his job but caves when it comes to love,
And Jae is everything a rockstar should be it's no wonder Yunho is awed.

I can't wait so see how these characters develop.

Everything seems fine and dandy so far. A star. A stalker. A few heroes. Cool. Got that.

At this point, the only thing that's bothering me is that these bodyguards--at least one of which is radically impressive at this point with his daring rescue antics--happen to know a master hacker who just so happens to be dating Jae's bestie. I haven't read much of your stuff yet but...considering what I do know...*Squints at you*...Something worse than a stalker is coming, isn't it? Mhmmmm~

Oh, definitely worse. Yoochun is an addition - he doesn't exist in the novel - so I had to give him something to do.
You seem to be on a proper reading spree here!

(^______________^) I'm a bit obsessive that way. Once I start, I can't stop. Hehehe...

Novel? Fanbait, right? I see. So Yoochun will kind of take shape as the story moves along. Interesting. I do that sometimes too. It's a fun free-write exercise.
