Kids. I'm serving with kids. Clueless kids who don't know they're born. There they were, all through the morning's field craft class, giving me stick about using camouflage paint. Then, over lunch, they have to get into an argument on whether girls should wear makeup or not.

As if they even knew the first thing about it.

Maybe it was the heat. Usually I keep well away from pointless stuff like this. But today… ah, well. In the end they came down on a no makeup rule for their girlfriends and our subsequent discussion went something like this:

"Explain again why they shouldn't wear makeup?"

"Because it looks gross. Unnatural."

"Really. Tell me something: am I wearing makeup right now?"

Two guys climb half into my lap to inspect my face.

"No. Of course not."

"And you know that… how?"

Which is how I ended up conducting a makeup class during free time. Just to show them how stupid their comments were, of course.

*Giggles*

I need to read through all these entries this summer too. If the rest are anything like this, I'm gonna have a ball.

JaeJae is definitely a master at looking natural. I can totally believe this. Hahaha...

~~~~~~~
I'm almost home which means, it's almost time for me to gift myself with a kindle, which then means ... I get to read your book ... muahahaha... *cough cough* Ahem.
I don't think you realize how excited I am for this. Your will be my first BL novel experience. (>_<) Eeep!
I thought he's good at natural makeup, and since I've just learned a bit more about it... I'm doing research for my stylist / makeup artist in FanBait... Jae got landed with my musings.
Thanks for looking forward to reading Job Hunt. Hope you'll enjoy and it won't turn into a nightmare experience. Can't imagine that it's your first... we seem to be knee deep in them all the time. I'm just about to submit Ghosts, which is the follow-on novella. For some reason I couldn't finish House Hunt, which was meant to be book 2, without doing Ghosts first. Ah well... we'll see what happens.
Are you sad your travels are over? There's so much I'd love to ask about your time in Korea... And have you worked out what you'll do next?
Hahaha... It's relevant though. I wonder if he's allowed his BB creams and products in the military.
Who do you mean by WE?
I mean in the sense of a published novel with an overtly expressed same sex romance that is not YAOI, Nonfiction, or mostly biographical.
I have read LGBT novels for gender studies before but those were rarely about the shared dynamics of TWO individuals [or one individual's dynamic with several] and more about a personal narrative of the author---mostly about the journey of self discovery and self acceptance about their sexual orientation and/or gender expression.
The only LGBT fiction novels I have read that come close to any expressed romance are: Tipping the Velvet [F/F], Oranges are Not the Only Fruit {F/F], and Kiss of the Spider Woman [Trans M]. But if you are familiar with these you will know, any romance is less than secondary in plot and they are mostly semi-autobiographical. [AND as you can see, 2-3 are F/F romance centric].
Your book will be my first adventure/mystery, M/M romance, true FICTION. Something that is less about the politics of sexual orientation and more about ... well, I will find out when I read it, won't I?
Now I mostly just read short stories of LGBT literature. I only found out about Dreamspinner two years ago. But it was in mention and I forgot about it. Hahaha...
I'm eager to start reading novels again but I want FICTION! All kinds. Not just the semi-autobiographical kind about how hard it is to be queer. Sometimes, I just want a thrill. It's condescending of me but I don't need that reminder on everything I read for all ### pages of what I read. Sometimes, I just can't. OTL.
I am more worried than sad. As is, I am now unemployed again and I have little resources. My travels were a blessing and I enjoyed every bit of that experience like it was the last. What comes next, we'll see. ^^
I proposed a Q/A tag for questions about Korea in a post.
Korea Q/A
Feel free to drop your questions in the comment section or via PM. I haven't quite figured out how I will answer them yet but I will get to it soon.
A make-up class for guys taught by Jae -- sounds like a scene for a k-drama comedy. Really funny.
I've been doing more research for FanBait. But yeah, I could see that in a drama.
I know, right? I'm also thinking that while he may be careful around the others at first and keep quiet, he won't let them talk crap once he settles in some more.
I'm not sure what the rules are. Or even if there are actual rules. I'm thinking they can't argue what they don't know about. What he's trying to teach the guys here is that makeup can be "invisible" and still enhance your looks.
I have a stylist / makeup artist in one of my stories and went to meet a real one to learn a bit more about their work. She showed me what she can do with skin tone liner, clear powder and a chap stick... It was pretty impressive and I'm sure Jae's been taught similar things.
skin tone liner, clear powder and a chap stick.
Oooh, I would love to have seen that. Those are basically my essentials; plus mascara and sun cream.
What did she do? Can you describe it? Just curious. (^_^)
