Setting up a business is fun. It's also lots of work and long hours.
And a marvellous excuse for almost anything... including neglecting your husband, ignoring all relatives, eating at odd hours, not going for walks or to the gym or out on the tandem. Not a good way to go allround and most of all with the tandem.
I actually love tandem-riding, especially when I have a story in my head. Meandering along the lanes really helps with plotting. But it's been a while since we've had a tandem holiday - we were too busy commuting and moving house last year and this year I'm simply not fit enough. And when I bemoaned that fact, my other half challenged me to a 75-mile ride.
Why the funny number? He started with a 100-mile idea, but when I pointed out that the furthest we'd ever done in a day was 57 miles... well, let's say he moderated his expectations. And I agreed to think about it.
Posting it here just made it official - I'll accept the challenge and we'll do a 75-mile ride sometime in August or early September.
First order of business: get my seat back...

If you really want to do something, you'll find a way. If you don't you'll find an excuse.

But I agree with the increments. We did a couple of five mile loops and a 10 last weekend. The problem will be to keep motivated enough to make time for it most days.
Maybe if you keep the Swim-Bike-Run chapters coming?
Pretty please?

Date: 2012-03-01 06:26 pm (UTC)It's either THE TALK or the photos. And, of course, Renji gets to go to work with his new hairstyle - that has to be good for a few.
I remember when I did that (cut my hair off, that is) people walked right by me and then stopped and turned back. I could so relate to Renji's 'am I just defined by my hair' thought! So real.
I've been mentally rehearsing a few comments Zaraki could make on seeing Renji's hair (and not so despondent attitude).
Ah well, note to self, stop waffling - just sit quietly in anticipation.
Actually, we did 10 miles on the tandem this afternoon. Wonder if I can drag myself to do some weights tomorrow morning?
Thanks for the encouragement... I don't hunt (I only kill things when writing) but I love watching them ride through the village. Like a 200-year old mirage. Actually, our house used to be the village pub and the hunt met up just outside in the mornings for their stirrup cup and hunt breakfast. But I do like woods....
